So I was in Norfolk for the wonderous hail storm a couple of weekends ago and now have a check from the insurance company for quite a bit of $$$. They wrote off the hood completely for $1000. I don't really wanna spend that much on an OEM replacement. I know jack about carbon fiber and wish i could afford a dry carbon one but not in the budget. Really looking for suggestions for a carbon fiber hood form my X. I have done some research but get mixed reviews on everyone from fading to crap fit. Thanks for the help!!!

I have heard of people getting the hoods recleared right out of the box to halp with the fading. Fitment is something you have to deal with when you have anything that isnt what originally came from the factory on that specific car.

I have a Seibon Carbon fiber hood for my IX. Fitment is always a gamble, especially since you can't do much about a carbon fiber replacement part. It should be close to perfect at worst but it's a gamble. Seibon makes quality carbon fiber parts. It will most likely weigh close to your stock hood but like you said the dry carbon is quite expensive. Ultimately my response is to go with Seibon if anything. If you do decide to get carbon fiber, take off the vents if there are any and high temp spray paint them black... it'll blend in nicely and look much much better than the way they come in silver. Shoot me message if you have any questions.

not sure about the x's but on the XIII and IX the stock aluminium hood is lighter than all but the highest quality cf hoods so its just a bling mod.

I see that Seibon and VIS seem to be about the tops for what most people seem to go with. As far as weight, I'm not overly concerned unless it a tank. I had seen some talk of having it cleared with UV block out of the box. Don't know how much that will run. Thanks for the heads up on the vents, J. BTW am I destined to use hood pins or can use the existing latch system?

Fair nuff, u won't necessarily be stuck goin with hood pins, I'm sure it'll depend on the particular hood ur looking at (safety maybe debatable though). I have seen some that don't have the holes for the windshield washers so it may depend on the hood as to how ready they are to just get thrown on.

I have the stock VIII/IX hood in carbon fiber from Seibon. It has the same hood latch as a regular stock hood. No difference except DO NOT slam your hood when you close it. You push it down into the latch first... then just push down. I have the carbon fiber hood dampers on mine so I dont have to worry about setting it on the hood peg or pin whatever you want to call it. They're nice to have and it looks pretty sexy. My wiper sprayer holes did have to be opened up a bit to install the stock sprayers.

I assume you had the orange one running around. I would go with a seibon. Should be able to use same latch system. Let me know the next time you are in town. We usually try to have meets on Friday and Sat

Ya that would probably be me. I am in town once a month for National Guard drill. Not a lot of free time when I'm there but maybe I can hook up with you guys sometime. I got pounded in that hail storm. They are replacing both pass door skins and the hood altogether. I will look more at Seibon. I found a Terminator model that I think I like. Kinda like the aggressive look.

if you have concerns with the hood fading , I have had a couple friends that actually put a clear tint on it just for added protection from rock chips and fading.
