After having my car running fine one and not starting the next, I checked everything I think of and was on the internet for hours a day getting info. No sparks, fuel or CEL. Fuel get to the rail, has constant 12Vs to the crank position sensor, injectors and coil plugs but no signal to the injectors or coils when cranking. CPS gets a signal when the trigger plate goes through the sensor as it should. I logged the timing and RPM while cranking and got some outrageous values, timing at 61* with the key on and fluctuating randomly up to 200+* and RPM up to 8k in just a few seconds of cranking.

I let my tuner know this and he said to pull the ECU and check the board which was a common thing I saw on DSM forums. I had several ECUs fry in my 240SX when doing the SR20 swap 10 years ago and the ECU never looked pretty. The board looked okay at first but started looking closer and found these and added a pic of a new ECU board for comparison. Circled are 4 parts that don't have a shiny, smooth surface like the others. They have a rough texture as if heated up with a lighter and has a dry, brown surface around those areas. Not sure if these are bad as other ECUs I've seen were obviously damaged.

    Could this be the problem?

The piece circled in the third picture doesn't look too good. do you have access to an ECU you could swap in?

All the circled pieces look similar, it was just hard to get good pics. I don't personally know anyone else with an Evo and the nearest one is at least 70 miles away. I'm looking for one to buy at the moment and if it doesn't work, I can resale it or keep as a spare.

My sense of smell isn't the best. I can't see the ECU having burnt looking parts for no reason though.

The only thing that would make me hesitant to just plug another ECU in is, what caused it to fry? It may have just gone bad, but I'd hate to see you plug in a new ECU and have it fry just like the other one because of something else being wrong.

Well to be honest I can't see the pics well but it sounds like ur describing the solder which can be brown from when it was soldered down I guess. I thought my ecu fried one time but it ended up bein a fuse.

If you look at the rest of the ECU and the pic of the new one, it doesn't have this brown color on any other contacts.

I've wondered about plugging in another one and possibly burning it up but I really don't know what else to do at this point.

It's not the brown "glass" looking residue from the solder. The parts that are brown/burnt are the actual transistors/resistors, not the solder joints. The joints are usually soldered on the bottom of the board anyway.

The only huge difference with the DSM ecu and EVO ecu is the fact that the DSM had capacitors that would either leak or explode after so much time.I don't really know if that ECU is fried I'd check the fuses like Zach said. Otherwise I don't know, follow up with a swapping out the ECU with one that works.

Every fuse on the car was looked at visually 3 times then with a test light on each side of each fuse.

yeah I wouldn't be using a test light. Use a multimeter.

Stop using a test light always use a meter. Test lights backfeed into circuits causing failures. The only way to see if the ecu is junk is to swap in a known good one. You could always send it to someone with an 8 for them to try in their car so you dont fry a new one in yours.
