I just had a guy in my shop do the wheels to his lancer. Came out nicer than I would have expected too..But they say you can peel the stuff off if you don;t like it. So I'm wondering how EASY is it to peel it off then? Easy enough to do it on accident while your washing/power spraying your wheels? Know what I mean?
Did the guy in the Evo X clear coat over it?
I was entertaining the though of doing this to the STi but I'm not sure how something that dries Matte black would look on a glossy black paint job.
thanks for posting those troy, i was just thinking about that car when when i read the first post. yeah i wanna do my head lights and was thinking about doing it this way too but not sure really how resistant the plastidip stuff is. i have no experience with it but i been seeing more and more of it so it has to be decent i guess
what exactly is this stuff for?
Google shows that a lot of the VWs seem to be using it. it must have picked up overseas rather quickly.

it's held up pretty well on the wheels I would say, I know he uses a pressure washer, and he has no peeling spots whatsoever. and considering the prep job he did, they are doing well.
and BRP, it does have a textured look to it, so it's not so much of a factory look IMO, but maybe that was in the application of it, since the wheels came out quite smooth. Any type of paint will work fine in the headlights, as they aren't really exposed to the weather/air if sealed back up correctly. just a good prep job. I already did a couple sets of MR replica taillights, no issues with leaking or anything...
ooooo its that stuff. i see i guess ive never used it for anything
Bottom line, recommendation.....yay or nay?
I gotta say, I really don't like the look of it personally, looks like it has brake dust all over everything. Everybody has their own personal taste but I think paint looks better.
In my opinion it sucks and is a mod best left for the ricers, This is by far the most non proper way to paint something that is found on an automoible asit will not stand up to the elements.
Sorry to bring this back to life, but I have seen many entire vehicles painted with plastidip, and they look awesome!!! They are said to last 6-8 Months if you do enough layers.
i love that stuff, looks good and if u put a coat of clear coat on it, it comes out pretty good. ihave done my cars and done some work for others as well. i did my wheels and that front bumper part(just playing around)
i just did mine today eddy it turn out looking good! i received a quote for powder coating my rims for 65 a rim! i was like "THAT SHI CRA" went to lowes bought two cans of the dip for $12 bucks and dip all 4 rims....

$65 per wheel isnt bad really I paid $75 per wheel for both the purple wheels and the blue wheels (both metallic) and the powder coat is holding up great (other than the damage I cause ... learned my lesson on putting lugnuts on when the fit is tight and Im pissed off)
yeah i just didn't want to spend $260 on blacking out a set of rims that i really don't like...saving up for the Rpf1's so plasti dip was the way to go for me.![]()
