Anyone use or know anyone that's used plastidip for painting rims, emblems, interior trim, lips, etc?

I just had a guy in my shop do the wheels to his lancer. Came out nicer than I would have expected too..But they say you can peel the stuff off if you don;t like it. So I'm wondering how EASY is it to peel it off then? Easy enough to do it on accident while your washing/power spraying your wheels? Know what I mean?

Did the guy in the Evo X clear coat over it?

I was entertaining the though of doing this to the STi but I'm not sure how something that dries Matte black would look on a glossy black paint job.

This stuff will peel quite easy, I would not use it for wheels for sure and you can't clear over it since it is so porus.

sounds like you have used it before?would you recommend using it for the inside of the headlights or would you say just the normal rattle can stuff works better?

Google shows that a lot of the VWs seem to be using it. it must have picked up overseas rather quickly.

it's held up pretty well on the wheels I would say, I know he uses a pressure washer, and he has no peeling spots whatsoever. and considering the prep job he did, they are doing well.

and BRP, it does have a textured look to it, so it's not so much of a factory look IMO, but maybe that was in the application of it, since the wheels came out quite smooth. Any type of paint will work fine in the headlights, as they aren't really exposed to the weather/air if sealed back up correctly. just a good prep job. I already did a couple sets of MR replica taillights, no issues with leaking or anything...

I think I read that a prep job is minimal to none....

quite possibly. I don't think he did more than clean them real well and apply it. and they look good.

My line of work doesn't let me accept that practice

I have used it and it stays soft since there is no hardner in it, When I do evo headlights I just scuff, prime and then just use a quality paint.

The only good thing about it is the fact that it is reversable.

I gotta say, I really don't like the look of it personally, looks like it has brake dust all over everything. Everybody has their own personal taste but I think paint looks better.

In my opinion it sucks and is a mod best left for the ricers, This is by far the most non proper way to paint something that is found on an automoible asit will not stand up to the elements.

Sorry to bring this back to life, but I have seen many entire vehicles painted with plastidip, and they look awesome!!! They are said to last 6-8 Months if you do enough layers.

$65 per wheel isnt bad really I paid $75 per wheel for both the purple wheels and the blue wheels (both metallic) and the powder coat is holding up great (other than the damage I cause ... learned my lesson on putting lugnuts on when the fit is tight and Im pissed off)

yeah i just didn't want to spend $260 on blacking out a set of rims that i really don't like...saving up for the Rpf1's so plasti dip was the way to go for me.
