I still don't see how you (murlo) had a problem like that at only 420whp and 390wtq.

Also, I think I am going to go with FIC 1100cc's with the PNP adaptors as I keep reading about problems with the DW's. Hopefully these will work good and I won't max them out on e85.
First, like Murlo said, his car would have dyno'd over 510 hp on MKC's dyno.

I have the FIC 1100's with E-85 and FP Red. I am pretty close to maxing them out, but not quite. I am running a single Walbro in tank, so I probably need to upgrade my fuel before injectors.

This is a little OT, lol. But honestly, after talking with my tuner, if you are starting to make any power on the car over just simple bolt on's, yes I would switch to a different Oil. They recommend castrol, some diesel oil for higher performance ones or AMSoil. They honestly said anything but mobil1.

Hmm... does it just not hold enough surface tension to prevent metal on metal contact? Detergents? Im curious to hear a technical reason mobil one is bad...

Sorry to bring this up Golden, lol. It's cluttering your thread. Let me know if you want it cleaned up and I will stop, not sure how laid back this forum is.

Well the factory 5w30 is for sure too thin, 10w30 should be a good upgrade for everyone making some power. I honestly have no idea why they don't like mobil 1 but they build a lot of motors for a lot of different car platforms and 9 out of 10 cars that have spun bearings they saw is on mobil 1. Experience sometimes is just as good as technical knowledge...kinda like trail and error, lol.

Changing oils is a bigger deal than most people think. Do you have a tuner/shop that you use? I would consult them first. I am sure the 10w will be fine, but I guess I personally don't like to trust random people on the internet, it may be good advice but you should still verify with a professional.

No good tuner shops here so I have to rely on the intraweb for advice. I'm just shocked to hear mobil 1 isn't what I thought it was. AMSOIL switch is next then.

I know people that run 10w30 all year round...is it a good idea, not sure.

I am by no means an oil expert, I just listen to my tuner as he knows his shit.

You should have been using 10w30 stock anyway. Manual says you can switch to 5w30 if temps reach -10F. Also shows using 20w40 above like 40F, but I won't do that. I switched to 5w30 for the winter and it helped a lot but temped reached -20F here, so I may switch to 0w30 this winter. 2nd number is warmed up viscosity, so normal operating temps will be the same thickness, just better start ups.

Lots of good discussion here on my favorite topic. I am not feeling well this afternoon and will give a better response tomorrow.

I recommend AMSOIL SSO 0W-30, this oil is made for Turbo and high revving engine. I will add more later but I encourage all to checkout the Amsoil website and my section here on MWE.

Here is a link to the AMSOIL site regarding the AMSOIL SSO oil.
    http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/sso.aspx

SSO is rated as 0w-30, but is formulated to replace 0w-30, 5w-30, and 10w-30.

One of the main flaws with Mobil 1 is that it does not hold up well in wear tests, where other synthetics, do much better.

Also Mobil 1 is a synthetic oil made from group 3 base stock – Severe hydroprocessed - Ultra refined crude oil.

AMSOIL is Group 4 – Full synthetics (chemically derived) - Chemically built Polyalphaolefins (PAO)

Any oil that you run it is recommended that periodic Oil Analysis is done to determine not only how the oil is doing, but if there is any engine related issues occuring that you may not see until it is to late. Personally I ran SSO in my Evo for 10k miles, no race events. At 7k I sent the oil off for analysis and it showed good condition and ready for more abuse. (Please check the link in my sub forum for the analysis sheet and others.) We have a member here with ~20k miles on his SSO and I gaurentee it is not easy mileage. He tested at ~14k miles and it showed good wear and ready for more abuse.

I hope this helps and let me know if there are any more questions.

    Thanks for the input Scott.

I am currently running AMSOIL SSO. I also put AMSOIL in my Tranny, Transfer Case and Rear Diff. The car glides so much easier now.

I looked at the oil analysis on AMSOIL's site and the interesting part is the viscosity part. Even though it's 0w30, it holds it's weight better than other heavier viscosities.

    Back to Golden stuff.

I installed TWM's under hood shifter bushings tonight. A week or so ago, I sent measurements off to TWM with the exact dimensions of the stock shifter bushings on a 2010 X. Turns out that one of our cables are a lot larger than the 2008's. They have since sent me a free kit to try out on my car. It didn't go exactly as planned. The larger bushing is a bit too long, and I couldn't get the retention pin on.

I will either edit this write up when it's all done, or do another complete write up. I'll have to see what TWM is going to do.

When I sent the info off to TWM, I suggested that they make some sort of added weight to the main shifter cable. The stock arm has a big weight attached to the end of it ( you can see it in some of my pics). TWM is famous for their weighted shift knobs. They make shifting smoother. The new bushing is fairly heavy and works really nice as additional weight. It makes shifting even smoother than just the bushings alone.

I just happened to have a set of used AMS under hood bushings around so I took pics.
(p.s. the AMS bushings are for sale)

You can see how much larger the 2010's main shifter cable is. The other cable is the same size as the 2008. The black rubber bushing is stock. The large metal one is TWM and the package is AMS'.

Here is the large bushing removed, and the weight can be seen.

Stock rocker assembly. The smaller bushing goes on the one end of this. AMS does not offer bushings for this part, but the TWM's make it a lot tighter and smoother.

    Bushing installed:

    Full assembly:

    Small Bushing:

    Installed:

Plastic piece that raises and lowers the main cables' arm:

Don't lose this bad boy if you remove the swing arm assembly:

    Swing arm assembly installed:

    Large Bushing installed:

This is how short it needs to be:

That's pretty much it. It feels amazing now. A lot of the slop is gone from my shifter. Remember, I do have the TWM Short Shifter too. Shifts are smooth and precise. The added weight makes it just glide into gear.

Not the TWM. You would have to get it from them. I am just their test subject.

I have a used set of AMS Under Hood Shifter Bushings for sale. (They will only fit the 2008's)

Much of the oil conversation was in regards to my car. He actually instructed me to run 10w40, not 30. I'm going with Amsoil for now but I may switch to something cheaper later on and change it more often. My car is more road course than daily driver.

Golden - So, does the TWM bushing for the 08 X's replace more than the AMS or is it just for the 10 X? Thanks!

The TWM bushings for the 08 come with the 3 bushings you see me replace. The 10 just has a larger main one. That is what I am working with TWM on. They just sent me another one to try.

AMS comes with just 2, the ones on the end of the cables. On an 08, the cable ends are the same size.

Btw: The more I drive it, the better it feels. I'm loving these bushings.

Check out the Birthday Cake Briana got me.

She bought the FP Red for my Birthday. This is her silly humor, and that is my engine bay.

Edit: that was from my cell phone, the pictures on our real camera look better, but they are harder to upload than just clicking a button.
