Yeah, we have the same tables. Technically we have all the tables the 9's do + more. But we probably don't have them all defined. The SST tables are the covenanted ones. Only one guy that I know of has them.

I am going to try to run E-85 this winter and just tune the cold starts as I go.

    Side note:
Tephra is working on Speed Density for the X. I guess it is all in the ECU already. The ECU currently uses a combination of Speed Density and MAF for calculating air flow / load. He just needs to turn off the MAF part and make the ECU not bitch up a storm that the MAF is missing.

Don't have an SST, so don't really care. lol

But I would like them to be released to the public. I'd be pissed if someone was sitting on some super secret tables for my GSR.

Edit: get it... sst... super secret tables... ha ha ha

Super Secret is right and the table do need to be shared. I mean whats the difference? The other tables are just as damaging as these if not in the right hands.

    Golden,

Given that you and I live in the same place....Philips 66 stations are all seeming to be selling 93 oct w/10%eth. What "exactly" are the pros and cons to E85? I know that the BP's here in town sell it but I really haven't paid much attention.

Also...how much $$$ would I be lookin' at to convert and how permanent is it?

    Pros:
10% more torque and 10%+ more hp - more hp because it is 105 octane (increase timing)
    Turbo Spools quicker
Smells awesome with a test pipe
    Good for Environment

    Cons:
    33% more fuel is used
Gas stations are not that common. You could end up across town without gas near.
Need larger fuel capacities. Injectors and Fuel Pump. If you go to a large turbo, you will need very large injectors and fuel pump(s).

I have a thread in the NE section with the locations of E-85 stations around town.

You will need injectors and an in tank walbro 255. Injectors are ~$500. Walbro is ~$90. And some kind of E-85 safe kit. Either an evo 8/9 pump filter or a kit like blaqops (hard to get at the moment). And some kind of inline filter. A kit has to be E-85 safe.

All my calculations show that E-85 ends up being cheaper than 91 octane pump and way cheaper than 93 octane.

You can do map switching (Tephra mods) and have both a pump tune and an E-85 tune for if you need to swap back on the fly.

E85+ is not made only by actual corn or other fully consumable food products. In many places the by products, waste, etc. are created into E85 or better fuel. I remember reading a National Geographic article where the bigger plants run on absolutely no electric power. They produce Sugercane into fuel and the byproducts and wastes are used as a renewable resource to turn into electricity to run the factory. These plants are completely self sufficent and need nothing outside of the crops in order to run the entire nations cars and run the plants, tractors, etc.

While America does not have a high producing alcohol burning substance such as Sugercane, we do have all of Hawaii and parts of the West that can grow sugercane and it has been reported that Hawaii alone can supply enough high octane fuel to supply all of the west coast. THe midwest can sustain its own fuel on E-85 and there is a possability of gaining crops from some caribbean nations to support the East cost and southern USA. E-85 should be processed more than any other alternative fuel source because it is completely renewable and 1 acre of Sugercane produces (I believe) nearly 5 times more than 1 acre of corn.

Not to mention E85+ fuel is one of the cleanest sources of fuel overall. (Factor in the constant battery changes and other environmental concerns associated with junking some of the hybrids on the market.

I went and grabbed the issue in case anyone is interested in reading about biofuels in general. It focuses on Brazil mostly, but touches on other countries and other forms of biodiesel outside of Sugercane vs. Corn. Its very interesting.

October 2007 issue of National Geographic.

I just made the switch 2 weeks ago!
The price for E85 is $2.49 and 93 is $3.00 so a .51 cent savings its not a huge difference but still something. There are only 3 stations here in Milwaukee and there a little bit of a trip to get too. So i have been filling 2 gas cans when its time to fill up and just keep them at the house so far its been working out wonderful!

Last weekend it got down to 38deg when i was out of town, the car had no problem starting but i did not want to stay running for the first 3 to 5 min.

My question is whats the temp were it get too cold for the car to start? Will it start or not? Will it run or no?

I believe at 58* F you have issues with 100% Ethanol. When it's mixed with pump, it gets a lot better. In the winter they go down to an E-70 blend to help with cold starts.

You can increase your cranking enrichment tables and some others to help. This will be my first winter on E-85, so I'll probably know more after I've adjusted my car for it.

    Hint:
E-85 and cold do not go well together.

    Hint #2:
    E-85 in winter becomes E-70. (i.e. a tune on E-70 would be a waste of a tune)

depends on who did the study, one study I came accross today on MSN i believe said that if you recycle the byproduct of producing e85 they claimed the finish > energy to create.

here is some NEGATIVE of e85 nobody mentioned yet.
*E85 does not decrease the Intake Air temperature. (colder air = more air into the engine = more power)

*E85 water separation issues- If you get to much water in the tank the separation could cause problems depending on how much water.

*E85 really cant be used in racing besides Drag Racing because of how often you would have to refuel.

I have to disagree here, I've been using e85 for a year now (for track use only). I go through the same amount of fuel as I did with 92/93. The biggest problem is the Evo's tiny fuel tank. But it's all about weight savings there heheh.

    On a 92 oct tune I'm at 321hp/321tq
    On an e85 tune I'm at 392hp 382tq.

The biggest con for me is having to take fuel with me to the track, but that also means I don't have to drive the car off the track and onto the streets to get to a gas station. Which is kind of a pro as well.

There's 5 stations within 4-5 miles of me that have e85, but if I had to dd the car I wouldn't have switched because it's not available everywhere and going on road trips would be kind of sketchy trying to find it.

I think until it's available at all stations it's really not practical for everyone.

And it's smells great, like beer and popcorn...Mmmmm

I haven't found that to be the case. I carry a 5gal can with me and it's rare to not have E85 at some station within a tank's range when you're on the Interstate. I can't see myself driving much farther than 500 miles and E85 is all over the midwest.

This is the downside I see to it. However I really think with this handy thing called the internet one could map out where to get fuel before the trip and not really have any issues although it really depends on where you will be traveling to.

    This site seemed helpfull.

    And so did this map

Yea you're right, I've been looking at stations on the road and it seems it's all over the place. I guess I really never noticed before.
