Cold weather that is funny. This is the mildest winter ever.

^ lol. I know it hasn't been bone chilling cold but its still been too cold to work. But i mean I have to space, just not the time because of my stupid work schedule.
so it looks like time has come for the evo. I thought I could hold out a bit longer but compression isn't good and coolant is in cyl 3 & 4 so I'm yanking it out and re building it. Gonna redo the head and a light port on the exhaust side. Time for E85 as well.
quick question does anyone recommend brian crower 272 cams anymore?
BC0111 cams stage 2....
also thinking for pistons
Manley 606100C-4 Mitsubishi 4G63 7 Bolt -8cc Dish Pistons, 85mm Bore with Manley H beam rods and brass bearings I believe.
just curious on input and factual knowledge if anyone has reviews on these parts.
Get the head off yet? Still smoking or coolant?
lol it's running great. hasn't smoked at all lately but I can still smell coolant burning so I know the problem is still there but it hasn't became any worse yet. I baby the car as it is though so I wouldn't expect it to. I'm going to probably start tearing it down not this weekend but next. I'm trying to wait for my new schedule to start at work so I can hitch a ride with a buddy since I don't have a daily. I'm very eager to pull the head off and see what's wrong though.
on the up side I'm going to be buying a laptop for the car so I can do logs with the EMS.
na, I'm doing an overbore. I'm going with HKS 272s though I've decided.

The part number you put up was stock bore.
Hks cams are very old technology, check out the ams cam review from a few years back. GSC, Kelford or FP cams if you want to make power.
Do a leakdown test before you pull the engine apart. It will give you a better idea where the compression is going. Also to a coolant pressure test if you are loosing coolant.
Yeah i wish i had 600 for a set of cams. I'm not really going for power too much though. Just affordability and reliability because I don't have too much to do this build with. That was a generic part number though I just pulled it off google.
I looked at the ams review. It seemed like hks was among one of the better cams to install might have been a different one but i thought it was ams.

Link to all 4 ams tests.
If you dont have the money to do it right dont do it. You will regret it, this is from experience.
Yeah I was thinking about buying an assembled map block also. Can't really decide yet quite honestly
Don't really have much of a choice though its burning coolant leaking oil on the plugs, compression is horrible and it needs a boost leak test and retune cause its missing pretty bad at idle which I'm not mad about it at all. Buying a high mileage car I kinda expected but hks vs kelford or gsc cams isn't going to make or break my engine I just might not see better numbers but I'm not going to build it on my own. I just don't have enough knowledge for that.

Thanks Brian I appreciate it and i agree I wish i could have Chris build it for me but I wanna learn and just don't have the time or money to get it to Chicago. My buddy who's helping me is very knowledgeable.
Does anyone know why the gates water pump is cheaper than oem?
Lol
So I've decided after a night of searching and getting info. I'm going to pull the motor and send the block to map for a stage 1 rebuild so everything is fresh. I'm gonna try and replace everything under the hood besides the actual mods themselves.
Thought crossed my mind to part the car out and trade it in..... It really doesn't deserve it but I'm kinda tight on money right now.
lol. I just don't think this car deserves it after how many miles it's been so reliable for me and the first owner. It's just the dollar signs that are getting me.
Cost me 100 bucks to fix mine parts and labor. We can do yours too. Just saying
I don't think I could get rid of it. Just corssed my mind through the process. The compression isn't really good at all though so it needs a rebuild.
Not a big deal. What numbers did you get on compression test?
umm... that I can remember 90 90 120 and 100. It was completely messed up haha. two of them were 90 for sure though.
Did you ever try cap of oil and recheck compression?
As I told drew. I got tools and cherry picker when ever you need it. Let's get that thing going ASAP!
We all can help just let us know
yeah I haven't tried to oil cap thing. I'm gonna give it a try before we pull the head off. The head started ticking alot louder than normal so it's coming apart either way. The car deserves a rebuild anyway with how good of a car it's been considering all the mods.
here's the update. Pulling the motor out Saturday and I have to call map tomorrow to let them know it's gonna be on the way that Monday and what I want as far as the block is concerned. Was also contemplating a double pumper but on the GT3076 I only wanna put out about 450 with the stock walbro 255 and bigger injectors. Do you all think that will be ok or will I need a double pumper on it? I really don't wanna do it but I'm just looking for input. if a double pumper is needed I might just stay with pump gas right now.
