E-85 fill up question

So I am getting my E85 tune at the beginning of February. Would it be ok for me to run my 93 down till after the light comes on and then fill up with E85 right before I get to the shop? Will the car start up and drive there ok?

i dont know alot about e-85 but im not thinking that itll will work, id run it down to light on, get a 5 gal of e-85 put it in trunk, barely make it to shop on remaining drops of 93 then dump it in and begin ur tuning, but i also dont run e-85 thats just my opinion

I was considering the 5 gallon container too. I just wanted to not have to buy a container that I will use once lol but if I have to I will!

Ya they prolly will just do it themselves don't run e85 without the tune for it once you go e85 ull love it !

Good advice right there for anybody new and thinking about running on E85. It's not as simple as draining a tank and then filling up with 85.

General statement yes. Just wanted to make sure if somebody was reading that and didn't know that much about it they would understand that's not how it works haha. In a world like today people will believe anything they're told. Just tryin to save some noobs the trouble

Never run your car on E85 without an E85 tune. You need about 30% more fuel on E85 than 93 so you'll be very lean. Also, you'll want to be on straight E85 to get the best possible tune. If you still have a couple gallons of 93 in there, you're just diluting the ethanol content and you won't be able to take full advantage of it's benefits and the tune will be off when you do run pure E85. Show up to the shop with as little 93 in the tank as possible, drain the tank, refill with E85, tune and enjoy.

I made the mistake of not draining the tank ALL the way before filling it up with e85. When I 1st got tuned, It had a little 93 in it and threw the tune off when I got back home (3 hour drive)


1.Get to the tuner with as little pump gas as possible.
2.Drain your whole tank and then turn the car on and get all the fuel out from your fuel lines and injectors.
3. Put in e85 and have your tuner put on a base map for you to get on the dyno.
4. Let your tuner work their magic!
5 Enjoy 50+ whp

If you're going to be running e-85 plan on using that 5gal jug several times , especially if you plan on driving anywhere outside of your normal vicinity.... or if you live in St. Louis hahaha!

I live in Miami and there are like 5 E-85 stations within 5 miles of me!

The terrible way i did it was run it on the light for a while, load it on the trailer, pull up to e85 unmanned station, take both plugs out of the gas tank and drained gas in parking lot. then filled up entire tank with e85...1 tune and done!

I prefer to have my customers run a tank or 2 of E85 through it before I tune it. That way their AFR doesn't change in the next couple fill ups.

If you ever track your car, it will not be a wasted purchase...especially if you're using E-85.

I agree. I usually drive to the station with customer and put about 3-5 gallons of e85 in and have them drive it till its empty on the base flash. Then put full tank of e85 before tuning starts. That is the same process I have them follow if they ever switch from e85 to pump and vice versa.

Yeah that is a great idea but I really don't have that option since it is getting dyno tuned and not street tuned! Good thing they have an E85 station station across the street from them!

Even if it's dyno tuned I do the same thing. the tuner should be more than willing to ride along and flash a base tune on the car at the gas station. But if it's across the street you will be fine to fill up and then drive the car there without a base flash. Fuel trims will get closed loop good enough to keep it running safely. Heck even if it's a few miles down the road you will be fine, LTFT with go to +12.5% and STFT will go to +25% so it's more than capable of making a short drive but you cannot get into any kind of boost or make car switch to open loop as fuel trims have no effect on open loop fueling.

I would first ask your tuner what he prefers since he is the one doing it. Everyone will have their own way, it's all up to him really.

Also probably good to have your injectors installed right at the shop and then get it drained there if the tuner offers it
