    This is some random pics taken in order from Fall 2010 to now showing various turbo setups, damage caused from a vendors careless engine building, and will update with new pics soon. I will explain some pics when I get time.

    The aftermath from cranking the engine over, never started. Thrust washers installed backwards locking the engine, crushing every single bearing and bending the crank. Vendor accused me of driving the car hard for thousands of miles when the engine was in the car for a few days.

    Engine after I rebuilt it and balanced by Abel Racing. As you can see in the 2nd pic, the vendor hooked me up with mismatched rods as 2 were 10g heavier than the others so Abel had to take a lot of weigh off the rod caps.

    Nice, looks sick. Were you driving in Midwest city on Saturday? I was sitting at O'reilly's and heard a BOV and saw a red evo driving by.

    I wish I could say yes but I still haven't got to drive it yet. Still working with Jestr to get the car to start and idle properly on the FIC 950s.

    Thanks everyone. Car should be ready to roll within 2 weeks or so. Still working on getting the car to start and idle on its own then I can go out on the street for some WOT logs and feel the power. Will make it to the strip at least once before dropping the FS635 in for a run against a TT C5 Vette in town.

    Updates on the tuning: Still having idle and startup issues. Toughed it out to get a datalog of a 1 mile drive on the roads around my house last night, first time to drive the car in 49 months but it was a PITA. Waited until night time and the roads to be empty as if I was to stall the car, there was a 90% chance it wouldn't start back up and it would end up in the middle of the road, just another issue that I've had since putting the big injectors in. As I thought, the car tried to stall time in which I had to drop the clutch in 1st gear while rolling to bring it back to life. Tried to throw a little boost at it while it was on the road but it wasn't having it, just misfiring. Not sure if Jestr had mess with any boost tables for the GM 3 port yet but really not worried about it at this time. It'll be a huge relief once I can start the car every time I crank it over, not worry about it dying on me, and not having the idle randomly jump from 800 to 2500rpm. Jestr usually sends me a new map every day but hasn't today so that should be a good thing as he has a good 5 minutes of log to work with.



    Some pics of the car where I left it last night as of course, it wouldn't start today. Washed and waxed, still no front bumper. Only the dash, front seats, and door panels are install in the interior right now due to getting the sunroof motor back on track and honestly, I may keep it that way. Plans once the car is finished is to get a new windshield, has a chip on each side that lead to crack that met in the middle and started another crack going upward. Also, paint needs some serious detailing so if anyone knows a legit place in the metro area, lmk.

    Sounds good enough for me. My hood has some faded spots and the mirrors are nearly pink. Plan on swapping the mirrors in the near future anyway but paint needs some help.

    Found a huge problem with my tuning issues so far. Talking to a member on EvoM lead me to this.



    Chewed up and nasty IAC valve. This was a used replacement for the failed factory piece back in 2006. Guessing the recent backfiring caused the damage. I cleaned it up, install it again and car fired up and idled no problem. Still isn't perfect so I got another on the way.


    HUGE relief right here.

    Found the reason for the couple of backfires after looking in the intake manifold




    While waiting for my new IAC valve, I got to work on a new crankcase vent setup. Using 2 -8an ports off the side of the valve cover, STM -6an fitting off the PCV valve port, and a 8mm to -6an fitting from the balance shaft inspection hole. Using the 2 Saikou Michi OCC(which weigh almost nothing) and will be using a breather can later on once I get the battery relocated to the trunk as even with a Civic battery, I have no room. Will be running the the -8an fittings to a breather setup and the other 2 to the Saikou Michis and routed back to 2 1/2" ports in the intake to pull vacuum from the block and valve cover. I could go crazy and run another vent by way of a STM dipstick vent but I think the current setup will do the job fine. Here's some pics as I progressed.

    UPDATE:

    Was able to diagnose some more problems. All the idling/starting issues lead me to the IAC valve which is now replaced. Car starts with light throttle and is able to hold a wandering idle after a few seconds so that's a plus but not a fix. Still pegging the wideband at 10.0 AFR at idle and the FIC 950s scaled to 812 where they should be on most cars, I moved on to the MAFS next. Jestr recommended that we tune for SD if it was bad, I have a Spoolin' Up harness to plug into the factory harness and an AIT sensor to go SD later on, I wasn't looking to complicate things any more at this point. A car will start with the MAFS unplugged but will be in limp mode which sounded good with the issues of misfiring while trying to boost and driving almost like a blown off I/C coupler. Fired up the engine, pulled the MAFS plug and car immediately died so that's cancelled.

    The last thing(and I hope last) I could think of that would cause such a rich, random idle and overall sh!tty driving experience so far was the MDP(MAP) sensor. Started the engine last night then pulled the plug to the MDP sensor and had no change that I could tell. The price I would pay for most used ones could get me close to an Omni 4bar MAP so I considered SD for a short time. I decided against it again and found a used MDP sensor with 40K miles on it for $15 so I'd have one on the way just in case it was truly bad and no huge loss in cash if it wasn't. Tested it before work this morning. Turned the key on and measured 5V at the harness with a multimeter so I plugged it in and slipped a 1/2" hose over the sensors nipple and pulled vacuum while watching the voltage, no change therefore the MDP sensor bad. Finding all these issues were a PITA but a new build on a car that sat for 4 years, there's bound to be some problems and I'm glad they're cheap fixes unlike the vendors "built" engine I bought that was thrown together with no clearances checked. .0020 ptw clearance on Wisecos FTL.

    No luck with the new map sensor, turns out that the 1st one was good, I just tested the wrong wire but I'm out $15, no biggie. Ran out of ideas so I swapped in the stock cams and still had the same issues. I do remember that the car started every time and idled perfect with the stock ROM and injectors so maybe the Tephra ROM would be to blame as I've heard of others using Tephra having the car start once and then not start again until several minutes just as my car is doing.

    Another update:

    Got a stock ROM ready to try out along with another cam position sensor on its way. Turns out that when that sensor goes bad, the car will start and cause ignition break ups under load, and cause the car to start and then not start for a period after its been started, all problems I'm having. This sensor crossed my mind before but I though it would cause the engine to not start if it was bad like the crank sensor. I has to be one or both the ROM and sensor, hopefully just the latter.
